Delhi Daredevils , one of the most ‘looked-after’ teams in this IPL season, had an impressive squad on paper and was looking to start the IPL with a bang. But, unfortunately things have not gone in their favor. Delhi had a very balanced side at the beginning of this season but things have not worked the way they wanted and as a result they are the last on the table. After the IPL 2018 auction was over, I thought DD is one of the strongest team in VIVO IPL 2018. But now it is totally changed. The reasons are,
Overseas players did not perform well. They have Chris Morris, Maxwell, Jason Roy and Munro. See, these players are most powerful hitters in T20. But now their performance is really bad. No one this player didn’t hit a big shot. But their overseas bowlers like Bold and Plunkett did well.
The top order batting has been a major problem for GG’s DD this year. They have tried various opening combinations with Colin Munro, Gautam Gambhir, Jason Roy and Prithvi Shaw but expect Jason Roy and Prithvi Shaw none of the openers have played any major innings.
Their middle order, seriously guys, it is one of my best. They have strongest middle order line up. Pant and Shreyas Iyer did well. Their average and strike rate tells you. But, the whole team only depends on these two players. If these two guys got duck, the team hardly to get 100 runs. There is no back up. Even with some big hard hitting all rounders like Glenn Maxwell, Dan Christian and Chris Morris, they haven’t been able to win matches as both of them have not performed the way the team was expecting.
For their bowling line up, Bolt is the only guy handle this department. There is no quality T20 spin bowler. Yeah, they have Amit Mishra and Plunkett. But their performance is also not good in this series. And the same thing, there is no back up. They have Shami also, but his personnel matters also influenced this one.
Due to the chaotic scheduling of IPL, Delhi hasn’t got a chance to play in their home ground in their first five matches, only in their last match they played in their home conditions. This is a considerable factor in their below average performance.
Delhi has a history of picking players and keep chopping , trying new ones and dropping them next time . They tried nearly 10 captains so far.
