Put down the phone and forget the Fidget Spinner. The easiest way to ease stress is to talk to your mother. A recent study says talking to your mother, has the same effects as a hug and can help to reduce stress.
Research has found that talking to her can quickly calm frayed nerves. The findings could help explain why our mother is often the first person we turn to in tough times – even when we are adults ourselves.
The researchers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison made a group of seven to 12-year- old girls perform a speech and solve a series of maths problems in front of a panel of strangers, due to which they will surely get stressed.
Once stressed, half of the girls were comforted in person by their mother. Within an hour, researchers find that the girls who talk to their mothers were become relax and calm.
‘But it’s clear from these results that a mother’s voice can have the same effect as a hug.’
