Violent Group Clash Breaks Out Between KIIT Law School and Engineering Students

KIIT students abide by the university’s motto ‘Live for society and strive for the best’, but the violent group clash that broke out on Saturday in the top Bhubaneswar deemed university’s campus tells a completely different story

Violent clashes broke out between the Law School and Engineering department of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneshwar on 24 November after simmering tensions over lewd comments passed to a female student the previous day.

According to students studying at KIIT University in Odisha, on the evening of 23 November,  a second-year B-Tech Mechanical Engineering student allegedly harassed and teased a final year female law student.

Following the incident, the law student and her batchmates protested at the BTech hostel and demanded an apology. The accused apologised by the end of the day.

However, the next day, hundreds of engineering students reportedly entered the Law School with beer bottles, sticks, bats, stones and even knives with an intention to damage the school and cause harm to the students. The police force finally reached after an hour of bombardment and somehow put a stop to the madness.

According to some resources, 25+ students have been injured and some are in the ICU also.

In KIIT, where students pay more than 16 lakhs to the university, does not have any sufficient security to prevent such type of riots. Instead of this, they are demanding students to leave hostel urgently.

Where they will go now?

Well! this is the dumbest example of responsibility and accountability from any university till now. Let’s pray and help them, so that they come out from this dire situation.
